Over 220 children attended the Star Pals 2012 Annual Fishing Derby. Each child was required to go through registration and 5 learning stations before fishing. Members of the Department of Fish and Game as well as members of the San Diego Fly Fishers Association were running the stations. Each child was given a t-shirt and then bait for fishing. Volunteers were used as lake walkers, fishing pier buddies, repair stations, fishing pole distribution and to prepare for the barbecue luncheon for all children, their parent and for volunteers. There was an awards ceremony after lunch to provide prizes for the the largest and smallest fish caught and the most fish caught. May 18th, 2012 Wishing You The Best On Your Special Day ![]()

News Update Today, Alana is the featured 30 Under 30 San Diego County Leader who is making a difference and you can read the article here.
Thank You AOL Patch in San Diego County for this honor and to be named among the other twenty-nine, '30 Under 30' amazing Leaders!!! I'm proud to be just a small part of the thousands of young change-makers around the world who are making big differences in their communities! I've met amazing youth from YSA, Get Ur Good On, Ashoka's Youth Venture, Kids Are Heroes, etc., who are reaching out & helping those less fortunate! We have to STOP the problems that are global; hunger, abuse, child trafficking, illiteracy, being homeless, drugs, etc, so we all need to look within our own communities to see how we can help! Also, I have to thank one of my mentors, Steven Haynes, who sadly passed away this past February! Steven gave me the opportunity to be part of the AFE family and he set the bar very high in how much he did for others! He inspired me because the goodness within him was such a bright light for all of us; his family, friends, colleagues to see along with the people he helped! Everybody loved Steven because he was one of the most generous people you could ever meet. I want to major in Sports Medicine because he was a sports physical therapist for athletes and I want to help people as much as he did. He was definitely the most memorable person I've known and I wish he was still here to share his endless love and kindness with the whole world! Steven taught me that I can do anything as long as I believe in myself, work hard and reach for the stars!!! September 28, 2011

News Update Susan Leak wrote a very nice article about Alana which I'll share below. Thank you!
Alana Ethridge Shines Both on Stage and OffHow One Young Actress Gives BackBy Susan LeakWhen one of my musician friends, Scott Isbell, came to me and told me about his friend , Alana Ethridge, I had no idea how inspiring this young lady was. In today's tough, competitive world, it is refreshing to find there are still some that do things to help others, just because it is the right thing to do and because they can. Alana is one of those people. A show biz veteran at the age of 14, Alana has a resume that includes Print ads and TV Commercials, TV, (Most notably in 2006/2007 season of Are you Smarter Than a 5th Grader )., theater, music videos, and Films including "A Simple Promise" and "Until The Music Stops". She is also the National Spokesperson for "Story Time For Me". But what makes her stand out is her Mentorship program. Alana's Achievers is a program Alana started to help kid pursue their dreams. As an actress, Alana knows it not only takes hard work to fulfill your dreams, but it funding as well. "I feel that it's important to start a mentor program to help other kids achieve their dreams and set positive goals in life. I want to help as many kids as I can, especially, the ones from families who do not have transportation or have the money to participate in after school activities whether it's sports, music classes, dance classes, acting, being a Boy or Girl Scout, or go to the neighborhood park." she explains. Alana's Achievers focus is on encouraging good habits for kids, from maintaining good grades to eating healthy and exercising. In order for Alana to raise funds, she and fellow cast-mate from Are You As Smart As a 5th Grader, Jacob Hays teamed up with Mediak Corp to produce a personalized DVD for the younger kids, "You Can Do Anything" Not only is your child's name on cover, but the name is also added into the lyrics of the songs. Up beat and encouraging, this DVD has inspired many kids all ready and has funded several grants from the Alana's Achievers. Now, one would think that is enough, but not Alana. She is also active with Kourtney's Krew - helping to raise money to assist young Kourney Najjar and others with the huge mountain medical expenses from multiple organ transplants. How would one describe this amazing young lady? Alana's Achievers Twitter stream says it best "The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving. ~ Albert Einstein" . That is the way Alana lives. Her heart and spirit make her a very bright star both on stage and off. February 2nd, 2011
News Update
Congratulations to Alana on being named National Spokesperson for Story Time For Me Story Time For Me's purpose is to provide a unique and fun learning experience for toddlers all the way up through 2nd grade school aged children. We want kids to see that reading can be just as fun (if not more!) than watching TV and playing video games. We believe that by providing superior stories with award winning illustrations, unique animation, and professionally read narration enhanced with music and sound effects, Story Time For Me will bring back the magic in reading. Their goal is not simply to turn kids onto reading, but to stimulate their imagination and creativity through the unique activities that accompany each story. Our stories were developed to teach wholesome values through positive, moral themes. All the Story Time For Me stories focus on socially relevant and family oriented issues, and the post-story prompts promote discussion between child and parent. December 21st, 2010

We Need Your Vote
Today is the official kick-off for the December voting process with the Pepsi Refresh Project. For those of you who don't know what the Pepsi Refresh Project is, it's a project in which Pepsi gives $1.3 Million each month, to support other change-making projects. Each month 32 finalists are given various amounts based upon them receiving the highest number of votes for that month.
I have recently partnered with a fellow Youth Venture Ambassador, Ryan Washington, along with Nickelodeon's, Darrius Snow, to create a project which will provide talented, yet, underprivileged youth with the resources, as well as opportunity, to further in their artistic abilities. This includes acting, dancing, singing, etc.
Honestly, all we need you to do is VOTE! That's it! Once a day until December 31st! We would all really appreciate it! Your VOTE does count!!!
Ryan, Darrius and I are so excited to have our project "Arts 4 Youth" be one of the projects awarded a grant by Pepsi so that we can help youth, less fortunate, pursue their dreams, like we have had the privilege to do in show business! It takes a lot to get started so we want to help as many talented kids as we can, get the resources and opportunities to achieve their dream!!!

Playathon Fundraiser This past Saturday, Alana's Achievers hosted a Hasbro Games Playathon which raised $430 for the Kourtney Najjar Transplant Fund. Thanks to all who helped out!
Kourtney is 7 years old and awaiting a multi-organ transplant. The cost of an intestinal/pancreas transplant can exceed $1,000,000 and that is only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Kourtney's family faces significant medical expenses related to her transplant. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post transplant medication can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month -- and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

You Can Still Help By Making An Online Donation At www.transplants.org/donate/kourtneynajjar
